a magical time !

Nancy’s Saint Nicholas

In Lorraine, families enjoy getting together for Saint Nicholas’s day. Technically speaking, it falls on 6 December, but for practical reasons the festivities are held during the closest weekend. And in fact, the fun lasts over a month! Bring your family and friends, young and old alike, to Nancy to share in Eastern France’s most famous legend, with memorable processions, shows and sweet treats all in a magical atmosphere.

A traditional festival shared by the whole community

Nancy’s Saint Nicholas festival lasts 40 days: the Saint Nicholas villages, events, fairground rides and illuminations bring their magical atmosphere and the delicious aromas of mulled wine and gingerbread to the city in November, and last until early January. During the weekend closest to 6 December, there is a huge procession through the city centre. The event was recognised by France on its list of intangible cultural heritage in late 2018, and is in the process of being registered on the UNESCO world list!

Nancy’s Saint Nicholas atmosphere

Wander through the sparkling streets of the town to enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations, then stop and gaze in wonder at the majestic Christmas tree in Place Stanislas.

Don’t miss the “Rendez-vous de Saint-Nicholas” sound-and-light show held in this same square every evening! Gather under the Christmas tree with friends or family for a dreamlike retelling of the legend of Saint Nicholas. Pure escapism, whether you’ve heard the story once or a hundred times.
