Located in the heart of Nancy, a stone's throw from Place Stanislas, the Lycée Jeanne d'Arc has been part of the daily lives of Nancy residents for over 120 years. A witness to the city's social and economic changes, its history is deeply linked to that of the ducal city.
From the stormy debates over girls' schooling at the end of the 19th century to the early months of the Second World War, it has witnessed the challenges faced by the people of Nancy. Directed by Lucie Ravaire, who faced up to the criticisms and dangers of her time with unwavering determination, this lycée, so "unpopular and undemocratic" in the eyes of its detractors, was an immediate success with the families who sent their daughters there, a success that lasted despite its closure during the terrible months of August 1914 to November 1918. Here, the author presents the results of four years of research and investigation into the fabulous history of this establishment, an emblem of Nancy's greatness at the beginning of the 20th century.
