Take part in a historical and scientific investigation into the mythical battle between two marine superpredators from the Jurassic era at the University Library of Science and Technology in Villers-lès-Nancy. The "Monstres marins du Jurassique" exhibition retraces the history of ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs, two marine reptiles from the dinosaur era whose fossils have been discovered in Lorraine, right in the heart of downtown Nancy!

Between the shelves of books and the concentrated students, a battle is taking place: that of the sea monsters. Discovered since the 19th century among the fossils of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals, the fossils of plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs trigger passions among naturalists: are they proof of great mythological floods? Was their existence even acceptable in 18th-century society? How did scientists determine their appearance and lifestyle? And, of course, are the great battles of these monsters, illustrated in the 19th century, just a figment of the imagination? The fossils in the BU contain some clues...

Exhibition on display on the 2nd floor of the BU Sciences et Techniques.

The exhibition is open to all and accessible to people with reduced mobility (PMR).

Visits led by the paleontologist exhibitor are open to all, by reservation, on November 13 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, November 20 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm and December 4, 2024 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Visits are also available for schoolchildren from the 3rd cycle upwards (CM1, CM2, 6e).

To complement the exhibition, several paleontologists will be meeting in November for a round-table discussion at the BU Sciences et Techniques, to present their work on Jurassic fossils.

A screening-debate of Jurassic Park will take place on December 5 from 7:30 to 11:30 pm at the Caméo Commanderie in Nancy.
