  • An exhibition by Gabriela Albergaria.

Gabriela Albergaria's work focuses on the notion of care, "a theory first developed as a relational ethic structured by attention to others" (in Fabienne Brugère, L'éthique du "care", Que sais-je? 4th edition, 2023, p 7).

    An exhibition by Gabriela Albergaria.

Gabriela Albergaria's work focuses on the notion of care, "a theory first developed as a relational ethic structured by attention to others" (in Fabienne Brugère, L'éthique du "care", Que sais-je? 4th edition, 2023, p 7).

Care is thus an ethic that maintains, repairs and protects, because it manifests "a concern for the interdependence of the world, an attention to others in need" (ibid, p 23). This "attention to others and responsibility for the needs of the world have an eminently political and social meaning: to make all voices heard, especially those who do not participate in decision-making processes, whatever they may be" (ibid, p 25).

In Gabriela Albergaria's work, this ethic of care focuses on the question of the representation of Nature and the silent voice of this Nature in this representation, which omits the historical, political and biological connectivity of the world. This work of giving voice to Nature unfolds through attention to the invisible processes generated by the links created between the non-human elements that populate the world beyond humans. She defends "another way of organizing the fabric of relations between humans and non-humans", and observes that from this multi-species ecology, this inter-species diplomacy, we emerge no less human, but human in a different way.

Gabriela Albergaria's care thus fundamentally concerns our world in its essence, the possibility of its self-giving.
