The United States accounts for 4.2% of the world's population and 20% of the world's inmates. In October 2019, artist JR receives unprecedented authorization to intervene in one of California's most violent maximum-security prisons: Tehachapi. Some inmates there are serving life sentences for crimes committed when they were just minors. Through his fresco project, JR brings together the portraits and stories of these men, offering a different perspective on the prison environment and bringing a message of hope and possible redemption.
Session followed by discussions with prison workers from the Autrement Dit collective and Sibel Kilerciyan, head of the Cultural and Artistic Mediation department at IRTS Lorraine.
