SHOW - EUGENE ONEGIN - CHAIKOVSKY

When Onegin bursts into Tatiana's world, her heart begins to beat for this flamboyant dandy from the capital. By night, she writes a burning letter to the man she sees as the envoy of destiny who will help her escape from her life. Alas, the young man rejects her advances. Their lives become a series of failed, derisory and tragic encounters, in which Onegin kills his friend Lenski in a duel before reuniting with Tatiana, now a princess. He declares his love for her. She rejects him.

A sublime novel of failure, Pushkin's Eugene Onegin moved Tchaikovsky, who adapted the text overnight. At once lyrical and powerfully dramatic, the opera paints an acerbic picture of the Russian society of its time¿: it is nonetheless a timeless work that describes the loss of illusions of a disillusioned youth.

Julien Chavaz's subtle, sensitive staging depicts the tenuous boundary between dream and reality¿the shattering of ideals on the reefs of existence. Conducted by Marta Gardolinska, this production features Enkeleda Kamani, the unforgettable Violetta of La Traviata, as Tatiana, opposite Jacques Imbrailo's Onegin.
