Place André-Maginot is located in the heart of the Ville-neuve, between the railway station and Rue Saint-Jean, and belongs to the Charles III - Centre Ville district.
It was named in honor of André Maginot (1877-1932), the French politician best known for the creation of the Maginot Line.
Previously known as "Place Saint-Jean", the square featured a gateway, Porte Saint-Jean1, which was destroyed in 1874.
