In recounting the astonishing history of the "Sécu", La Sociale does justice to its forgotten heroes, but also to a utopia that is still on the march, and from which 65 million French people benefit.
In 1945, the ordinances promulgating the scope of social security were passed by the Provisional Government of the Republic. They originated in the program of the Conseil National de la Résistance, which included "a complete social security plan [...] with management belonging to the representatives of those concerned". An age-old dream of people who wanted to live without the anxiety of tomorrow was finally realized. The main builder of this most humanist of edifices was Ambroise Croizat. Who knows him today?
