SPECTACLE - LA CENERENTOLA - ROSSINI

When he composed La Cenerentola - or Cinderella - Rossini was twenty-five and already bidding farewell to opera buffa, the genre that had been so successful in L'Italienne à Alger and Le Barbier de Séville. He will now turn to other horizons, notably the serious opera seria. But the composer has saved the best for last: this latest jaunt into the land of fairy tales is as enjoyable as it is jubilant.
