After a first presentation of the work in Nantes as part of the 2017 edition of the Voyage à Nantes, Morse lands in the Muséum-Aquarium district. The work recalls the story of American soldier John Steele, who hung from the steeple of Sainte-Mère-Église church on June 5, 1944, the night before the Normandy landings. As his artistic approach is always based on a new narrative that destroys old representations, Gilbert Coqualane has humorously hijacked this historical fact, replacing the soldier with a Walrus-scale reproduction from the Muséum-Aquarium's collections.
Commissioned by the City of Nancy, in partnership with Voyage à Nantes and the Muséum-Aquarium.
